The Current Real Estate Market in Westchester County

This photo shows the dip in Westchester County home sales - this is most likely due to the lack of inventory in the market.  This may indicate that we have many potential pent up home sellers

The photo below shows that prices for modest single-family homes are still going up - showing that there is still a lot of demand from buyers.

How to get rid of strong odors when you are trying to sell your house or apartment!

Strong Smells will Kill Your Value

Dealing with unpleasant smells

If you are going to list your home or apartment and there are strong smells in the house you should deal with this before anyone stops by to bring a potential buyer. Strong smells will lower the price of a property and kill deals.

Don't mask the smell-Fix it

You need to fix the source of the smell. Whatever is creating the offensive smell you will need to clean it and remove items that continue to hold the smell. If the smell is cigarettes you will need to clean and remove everything. The molecules in cigarette smoke last months and months. So a simple air freshener will not cut it.

What works for cigarette smells

  • Air the house out
  • Remove all Cigarette paraphernalia such as ashtrays,
  • Shampoo carpets and furniture
  • Use baking powder and coffee as absorbers
  • Wash all surfaces and use distilled white vinegar on many areas
  • Use Vanella extract in areas
  • Coffee grounds absorb smoke
  • Wash walls

These are some things to do to get that smell out.
